Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay is a Californian born in Long Beach on the 24th of August, 1972. DuVernay was inspired to follow her passion of the arts by her aunt Denise when she was a child. Her aunt was an overnight nurse so that she could have the chance to learn about art theatre or literature. DuVernay was first introduced to the film West Side Story by her aunt. DuVernay was taught by her mother that the arts can serve to engage people. DuVernay learned to be socially conscious by her mother. DuVernay was raised in Compton by her parents however, she spent her summers in Lowndes County Alabama. This is where the family of DuVernay's father has been for generations. Her father recalled the protests for civil rights that took place across the Edmund Pettus Bridge and the close-by town Selma in Alabama. Her summers in Alabama's Selma inspire her later to make an animated film on Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay received her Saint Joseph High School diploma in Lakewood California. After graduating she attended her first year at the University of California Los Angeles where she received qualifications in English and African American studies. DuVernay discovered a passion for broadcast journalism as a student. Her first job was as an assistant for CBS News in the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay recalled being given the responsibility of looking over the residence and scrutinizing the garbage from one of juries. The tasks that she had to complete left her unhappy and so, after deciding to not pursue journalism, she shifted to the world of publicity. DuVernay began her professional career as a junior assistant to publicity in a tiny film studio shortly after she graduated from the college. The company she founded for her own PR, The DuVernay Agency was established in 1999. Additionally, she started a variety of lifestyle and promotion networks such as Urban Beauty Collective. Urban Eye, HelloBeautiful, and Urban Thought Collective. Autumn Riley.............................Autumn Riley was born in Los Angeles United States. Her birth name is . She is a performer, popularly known for American Experience (1987) and A More Perfect Union (2009). Autumn was the Rose of A More Perfect Union and Anna Payne of American Experience.
